Chain O Lakes part 2

Its been a while since our latest campout and the scouts were itching to get some fresh air. The Chain O Lakes park is not all that far from home and it made for an easy escape from the new school year.

The goal was to not only camp but to get out on a boat and do some water skiing.

Our trip there was a quick and uneventful one there and of course we immediately had to get a fire going:

Why do they always want the huge logs?

I have to say our campsite was a little lopsided and there was little flat ground. But it was close, clean, quick – oh and COLD!

The first sub 50 deg  night all summer.Kind of odd since it was 97 on Wednesday! But we are scouts and we’re prepared, right? HA. Almost everyone pointed out how cold they were that night; even after admonitions that it was going to BE COLD! Luckily we’re a hardy bunch.

Seems they have no begun a tradition of hiking to the playground and spending a good amount of time there!

Somehow they find this enjoyable…..

On to lunch and preparation for the lake!

Flat tire! I knew this would be the shape of things to come!

Just a little background, my boat is over 20 years old and needs some TLC. It has some wear and tear but overall its just fine. However there are little things like user error that tend to get in the way of a successful trip. Last time it was a lost plug which almost sank us. I fixed that by attaching a string to it this time. Problem solved….at least I thought so.

While it was only 70 degrees outside, the water was much warmer and the idea of water skiing wouldn’t hold any troop 175 scout back.

I don’t think he really wanted to ski with his IPhone.

I know he has a smile in there!!

Just like this guy!

Ready for a real drivers license.

When all were done, we went back for the second bunch….sorry, but we RAN OUT OF GAS!!. Luckily there were lots of people around who towed us to a station and after paying $5.00 per gallon, we headed back out!

Some of them had lots of fun just staying in the water trying to get up on the skis. If you have never done it before, its not an easy task.

Sitting there waiting for the boat to move….

But he finally made it!

We all tried  – some made it and some didn’t. There’s always next year!

And next year I PROMISE to leave with a full tank of gas and a plug!

Great way to end the day!!!
